Q. Can the Mover be used in a tank with roof leg supports?
A. Yes it can be used and in fact this is the main type of
tanks that the Mover is used in.
Q. Can a Mover be used in a tank with steam coils?
A. Generally the answer is no, for this type of tanks the
NES Manway Cannon should be used
Q. Can the Mover operate in a tank where the floor is glass
lined?
A. Yes the Mover system can be used in lined tanks Without
damage to the lining.
Q. How does the Mover operator prevent his breathing air
line getting snagged or caught up in the tracks ?
A. The NES umbilical is a sheathed unit that holds the
hydraulic lines and also the Mover operator breathing line, so it is always
protected and easy to see
Q. How long does it take to get the Mover into the tank and
assembled?
A. Not more than one hour, with an experienced operator 30
minutes is normal
Q. How many people are needed inside a tank with the Mover
A. Only the Mover operator if he is experienced some
companies like to have a second man attending to assist.
LOBE PUMP
Q. How can I prevent damage to the Lobe Pump if bolts or
large stones are present in the tank.
A. The pump control block has a pressure bypass valve
fitted, which can be adjusted to limit the power to the pump . This enables
the unit to pump the sludge but will cause the pump to stall if a large object
should enter the suction.
Q. Can I use the 6" lobe pump with a 4" hose?
A. This is not recommended , the lobe pump is a positive
displacement pump, therefore any restriction to the discharge would cause
excessive wear.
Q. How often do I have to replace he lobes.
A. There is no easy answer to this it depends on the quality
of the sludge. As a guide you can expect to clean 4 or five tanks before
replacing lobes, however if you are cleaning ‘cat fines ‘ tanks you should
expect to change the lobes every tank.
Q. Are the lobes suitable for all materials?
A. Normal crude or bunker type oil tanks present no problems
however if high levels of naphthalene or solvents are present you should
consider ‘ Viton â’

POWER PACKS
Q. Can the power pack engine be run at 1000 rpm to save
fuel?
A. No, when under load the unit should be operated between
1500 & 1800 rpm, otherwise it will cause engine damage
Q. What is the maximum pressure the power pack can produce?
A. 3500 psi however normal operating range is 2000 to 2500
psi.
Q. How do I adjust the pressure?
A. There are two adjusting screws on the top of the
hydraulic pump the pressure is adjusted by altering the bottom screw . (Do not
adjust the top screw)!
Q. How do I adjust the speed of equipment powered from the
power pack?.
A. Because the hydraulic power pack has a variable
displacement pump, you can safely adjust speed using the flow controls which
are fitted to either the power pack or the driven equipment.
If you are driving equipment supplied by a third party, you
should install a flow control in the pressure line to the drive motor to
ensure overspeed does not occur.
Q. I fitted new hoses to the lobe pump
and now the engine stalls as soon as I start the power pack, what am I doing
wong?
A.INFLUENT:-
A typical sludge having the following characteristics:-
Oil Content - min 20% by weight
Water content - max 80%
Solid content - 8-10% (by Vol) or 10-12% (by weight)
Paraffin content- Content can be paraffin providing melt
point less than 70deg C
Viscosity of oil content - 150 centistokes @ 50 deg C
Solids density - min 1200 kg/cu/cm
Preferable decanter inlet temp- 60-80 deg C
With the above influent you would expect to
get better than the following results, without the addition of chemicals.
However you must assume that the water and oil in the influent are not bound
together in a tight emulsion.
We have based the above on an expected
throughput of 15 cu mtr/hr with the NES 802 unit with twin Z42 tri-canters. It
is also possible to polish the solids by re-circulating the water phase back
into the inlet to reduce the oil content in the solids without a noticeable
change in throughput. However steps such as this are the sort of thing that can
be carried out during fine tuning to a particular oil.
Expected results will be:-
OIL PHASE- Less than 2% Water by weight
Less than 0.5% Solids by weight
Hence less than 2.5% BS & W
WATER PHASE- Less than 4% oil By weight ***
Less than 2% solids by weight
*** this figure is misleading because it
refers to the water stream from the tri-canter, in order to maximise oil quality
you would normally set the variable weir to allow a certain amount of oil to
exit with the water. This oil is already separated and will float to the surface
in the water-polishing tank for later skimming. The final discharge water out of
the polishing tank will contain less than 0.5% oil.
SOLID PHASE- Total liquid 65% by weight gives
a dry stackable cake in this case 35% ds (dry solids) with the following
Components
30% water + 30% oil bound into the cake the
remaining 5% is free oil which can normally be reduced by re-circulation, steam
injection etc, however these improvements should not be assumed nor used as the
basis for a trial in case the sample for trial has different characteristics.
HYDRAULIC CENTRIFUGE
Q. Can the centrifuge be run at less than 3000 RPM?
A. The hydraulic centrifuge can be run at any speed up to 3500
rpm, giving the operator the opportunity to match the best operating
characteristics of the machine to the influent stream.
Q. Your literature mentions polymer and surfactants, are these
necessary?
A. Every tank and every job has different sludge and therefore
different process requirements, the use of chemicals is necessary when
separation is unsuccessful without additions.
Q. Does NESL supply or recommend types of chemicals?
A. No, the owner/operator must source these locally.
Q. Why does the decanter discharge liquid into the solids box
when it is stopping.
A. This is a normal function of all decanters, however if the
operator adjusts the third phase lever to maximum prior to shutting down this
will prevent this happening.
Q. How many men does it take to operate the two module
treatment system?
A. A minimum of two for 12 hr shift, but three is better.
Q. Can the unit run for 24 hrs at a time?
A. It takes 1 hour to start up and one hour to stop if you
are working day shifts only therefore the most efficient way to operate this
equipment is on a 7 x 24 hour basis.
Q. How long does it take to rig up on arrival at site?
A. Because all the units are hard piped on each unit, rig up
can be completed in one shift.
Q. What are the steam requirements for the unit.
A. 4000 lbs/hr for the single decanter unit and 5000 for the
twin unit.
